The musical idioms of the African diaspora are a powerful part of contemporary expression, history, and culture. How might these sounds resonate within Jewish spaces? What is their relationship to American Jews and to the music already present in Jewish communal life?

Join us for an interactive concert and conversation with Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell, acclaimed bass soloist and multidisciplinary artist working in Yiddish language and culture. Through song, storytelling, and dialogue, he invites us to explore these questions together, including how we approach issues of meaning, theology, and cultural exchange with care and intention.

During the program, Anthony will perform selections from his 2018 EP, Convergence, which brings together 100 years of African American and Ashkenazi Jewish musical traditions.
