Her paintings unfold slowly, both in their making and in their viewing, guided by self-imposed systems that structure an extended meditation on stillness, attention, and the act of seeing. Through recurring motifs such as windows or desks, Pater constructs visual spaces in which clarity is suspended, allowing meaning to emerge gradually through careful and repeated observation.In Chimera, Sarah Pater’s recent paintings move between the everyday and the ceremonial, assembling fragments of objects, landscapes, and the passage of light. Her color shifts from hidden to familiar tones, then to the felt and uncanny, creating compositions that emerge slowly, revealing their quiet intensity over time.SARAH PATER received her BFA from Boston University and her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design.
