It is a gathering. A practice of care. A way of coming together through rhythm, movement, and collective intention. Rooted in Afro-Bahian traditions of cleansing and preparation, Lavagem invites people to tend to shared space—physically and communally. In April 2026, PHonk!Philly is honored to host Lavagem Philadelphia for the first time and to welcome Afro-Bahian Master Teachers whose work carries these traditions forward. Over two days, artists and community members share space, knowledge, and tradition—building something shaped by presence, participation, and care, something that belongs to the people in it.This work grows through showing up, listening, and learning together. It takes form through shared rhythm and movement.Lavagem Philadelphia – Day 1Registration link: https://tinyurl.com/4mx8xjxkCost: FreeSaturday, April 18, 202611:00 AM – 6:30 PMLocation: Hawthorne Cultural Center – 1200 Carpenter St, Philadelphia, PA11:00 AM – 11:30 AMWelcome & OpeningIntros: Tamara Williams, Luciano Xavier Da Silva, Elaine Smith HoltonOpening Ritual & Musical Invocation: Tamara Williams & Luciano Xavier Da Silva11:45 AM – 1:00 PMMestra Fonseca — Dança Afro1:15 PM – 2:45 PMLuciano Xavier Da Silva — Candomblé Rhythms3:00-3:30 PM Break3:45 PM – 5:00 PMZé Ricardo — Samba de Caboclos5:15 PM – 6:30 PMMestra Oliveira — Danças dos Blocos Afros6:30PM – 6:45 PMCommunity Reflection & AnnouncementsLavagem Philadelphia – Day 2Cost: $25 per class- intermediate to advanced12:00 PM – 8:00 PMLocation: Hawthorne Cultural Center12:00 PM – 1:15 PMTamara Williams — Silvestre Technique1:30 PM – 3:00 PMLuciano Xavier Da Silva — Timbal3:15 PM – 4:30 PMMestra Oliveira — Danças dos Blocos Afros4:45 PM – 6:00 PMZé Ricardo — Bahian Ensemble6:00 PM – 7:00 PMMestra Fonseca — Dança Afro7:00-8:00 PMClosing CelebrationSamba de Roda, Food & Beverages https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events5/banners/e38dd030-1715-11f1-bd6f-bd69cb84d700-rimg-w572-h740-dcc74128-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events2/banners/e3c1d880-1715-11f1-bd6f-bd69cb84d700-rimg-w572-h740-dcc74128-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/e3f54490-1715-11f1-965e-5553f2ff6f23-rimg-w572-h740-dcc74128-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events4/banners/e422e440-1715-11f1-965e-5553f2ff6f23-rimg-w572-h740-dcc74128-gmir.jpg Agenda🕑: 11:00 AM - 06:30 PMLavagem Philadelphia – Day 1🕑: 12:00 PM - 08:00 AMLavagem Philadelphia – Day 2
