Broad And Spring Garden, Southeast Corner
511 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, United States
One hundred years ago, North Broad was THE signature place to live in Philadelphia. Enormous mansions, such as the Widener home, a vibrant Jewish neighborhood, and great high schools that were the pride of this neighborhood. We'll uncover secrets in and around Temple U, and learn about famous auto showrooms and car-related factories which lined this beautiful boulevard.
After years of decline following World War II, investment has brought the reopening of the mind-boggling Metropolitan Opera House and the stately yet strange creation of Willis Hale, the Divine Lorraine Hotel.
We’ll start our journey at Rodeph Shalom, the former site of the only synagogue designed by the architectural genius Frank Furness.
Meet at Broad and Spring Garden, Southeast Corner: 511 N. Broad St., North Philly, Philadelphia, PA, 19123. We'll walk straight north up Broad Street about 2 miles, ending at York Street. We will see hidden sights on nearly every block, so come and be dazzled.
