We are intentionally showing up together to support a Black serving institution while engaging in real dialogue about how Black communities fund culture, legacy, and the future.Your Ticket and Where the Money GoesOne hundred percent of your ticket price is paid directly to the African American Museum in Philadelphia and covers your museum admission.This event is designed as a Cash Mob. That means your attendance is not symbolic. It is a direct economic contribution to a Black cultural institution. No middlemen. No markup. Your dollars go where they matter.What Is a Cash Mob?A Cash Mob is a collective action where community members at least 20 people intentionally show up and spend at least $20 each at a Black owned or Black serving institution to create immediate economic impact.Instead of waiting on grants or outside approval, we mobilize our own resources and move together with purpose. Ruth E. Carter presents “Afrofuturism in Costume Design,” the Exhibition.
In 2019, audiences sitting in the Dolby Theater and watching around the world on television, stood up and roared with joy when Ruth Carter’s name was announced as the winner of the Oscar in Costume Design and, again, in 2023.
This touring costume exhibition showcases the story of Ruth E. Carter’s journey as an artist and storyteller, who found a home and passion in Costume Design as she adventured from her humble beginnings in Springfield, Massachusetts to the legendary Dolby Stage in Hollywood, California, to becoming a two-time Oscar® Winning Costume Designer.
Carter’s filmography and costume design uniquely capture the African-American narrative and leave their mark in cinematic history. This is community economics in motion.?: 01:30 PM - 03:00 PMSailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground RailroadInfo: AAMP is pleased to present Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad, a compelling traveling exhibition developed initially at the New Bedford Whaling Museum in 2022 under the co-curation of Dr. Timothy Walker and Michael Dyer.
This landmark project invites audiences to revisit and deepen our understanding of the maritime dimension of the Underground Railroad. It uncovers how enslaved African Americans, in addition to overland routes, undertook daring escapes by sea—charting covert paths along the Atlantic coast, aboard merchant and passenger vessels, and via lesser-known watercraft.

This traveling version of the exhibition presents faithful reproductions of the original displays, alongside new interpretive material that expands both geographical scope and historical insight. It offers visitors an immersive encounter with narratives of flight, resilience, and agency—stories of freedom pursued not only across land but over water, and beyond the bounds of the
