- **Event Description**: WVTE is proud to announce its Spring Musical, “Disney’s Newsies!” It is a Tony Award-winning Broadway show, featuring a score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein. It is set in turn-of-the-century New York City, it tells of a David versus Goliath story, with Jack Kelly, played by Brett Reel, who is a leader of a band of newspaper boys, who decides to strike against unfair working conditions against the titans of publishing, led by Pulitzer, played by Stephen Smith, and fight for what is right.  

The Core Newies are being played by tri-county local youth, Tara Kimble (Crutchie), Kaden Berg (Race), Sam Yeager (Albert), Ryker Harvey (Romeo), Isla Murray (Specs), Melody Baker (Henry), Cooper Roberson (Finch), Madelyn Cook (Elmer), Isaiah Goldizen (Buttons), Kate Huffman (Tommy Boy), and Charlotte Brown (Mush).  With the help of Davey, played by Evan Engle, and his brother Les, played by Caroline Anderson, they decide to stand up for themselves.

While Pulitzer’s management team, Seitz, played by Greg Foley, Bunson, played by Jason Redman, and Hannah, played by Vivian Pownell plot how to make more money off of Newsie labor, with the assistance from Pulitzer’s enforcer team, of Wiesel, played by Cam Boggs, Morris Delancey, played by Ross Pownell, and Oscar Delancey, played by Dean Equerme, with the assistance of Josh Sullivan to continue to keep the Newsies under their thumbs.

The Newsies also have to worry about Snyder, played by Donovan Kimble, who wants to place them in The Refuge.

However, the Newsies have help in their corner as well.  Katherine Plumber, played by Maddy Painter, is an up-and-coming writer who puts them on the front page.  Mr. Jacobi, played by Brandon Stewarts, provides them a place to organize their union.  Medda Larkin, played by Seneca Kimble, gives them a place to hold a rally.  They also receive assistance from Spot Conlon, played by Noel Shreve, who is the leader of the Brooklyn Newsies.

The show is directed by  Ravenna Redman, with assistance from Aimee Chave.  Ashley Anderson is the producer. Greg Foley is the music director, with choreography by Aimee Chave, Karnsy Kimble, and Kelly Crites-Roth.  Set created by Tom Hencke.  Lights and sound by Andrew Western.  Costumes are by Karnsy Kimble.  Props are by Medea Harvey.

Shows are at the Landes Art Center in the Harr Theatre in Petersburg, West Virginia.

They can also be bought at the box office. Only cash or a check is taken at the box office.
