The story takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas in New York City, and focuses on the effect of a department store Santa Claus who claims to be the real Santa. The film has become a perennial Christmas favorite.
On the morning of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the man playing Santa Claus is drunk. Event director Doris Walker persuades Kris Kringle to play Santa in the parade. A success, Kris is subsequently hired to play Santa at Macy's New York City store on 34th Street.
Kris goes on to help spark a romance between Doris and one of her neighbors, as well as helping Doris' daughter, Susan, to believe in the wonders of Christmas.
Along the way, Kris must battle charges of insanity and corporate in-fighting at the department store.
The story is based upon a 1940s radio play and, as always, the WVTE production features parts for all ages. It is being directed by Tom Hencke and produced by Ashley Brosh Anderson.
