- **Event Description**: Come discover the joys of jewelry making and leave with a solid understanding of metalsmithing fundamentals! This 6 week class is designed for complete beginners but those who would like to refresh their skills in basic metalsmithing techniques are also welcome. Over the course of 6 weeks we will work on 3 main projects that will teach you to use the various tools available to you in the jewelry studio.

Project 1: Create a simple medallion to hold a photo, that can be worn as a pendant or used as decor. With this project we will learn piercing (sawing shapes out of metal), drilling, stamping, riveting and basic finishing techniques.

Project 2: We will make a bezel set stone pendant. You will learn how to solder and make bezel settings for cabochons (flat back stones with rounded tops). We will also cover how to attach different types of loops so that you can wear the pendant on a chain and how to polish the metal to a high shine.

Project 3: Construct a small round copper box. With this project we will learn how to use a metal shear, how to shape sheet metal and how to use a roller mill. But most importantly this project will help you practice soldering so that when you leave this class you will have the confidence to work on your own.

MAXT will provide all materials except for the photo you would like in your locket. We will have a variety of cabochons for you to choose from, but if you would like something specific please order a stone that is at least half an inch in diameter (the smaller the stone the harder it will be to work with).
