Join paper artist Shobhna Patel for a relaxed creative bookbinding workshop and explore how to create two soft-cover handbound books.
You’ll begin by making an A4 Japanese stab-bound book using a beautiful ‘tortoise shell’ binding method—an ideal introduction for beginners.
You’ll then create a square 16cm dos-à -dos book with a Sashiko-embroidered cover. Bound using the pamphlet stitch, this back-to-back book opens completely flat, making it perfect to use as a diary, notebook or small album.
During the workshop, we'll cover essential bookbinding materials, tools, and techniques, including sewing signatures, andembroidering on card. Shobhna will share her expertise,
key tips, and technical do’s and don’ts of this artform.
All materials and equipment will be provided (paper, card and thread colours may vary).
No previous experience is required, as Shobhna will carefully guide you through each step. By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home two handmade books and the skills to continue your bookbinding journey!
Refreshments will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch and a waterproof bag to take your finished books home.
This workshop is led by experienced paper artist Shobhna Patel. Shobhna has specialised in all things paper since 2009, and teaches workshops for all ages.
