Garden to Table’s Tasting Menu: A Tribute to Urban Farms


On the first Saturday night of every month from September to November 2019, Garden to Table brings you a carefully curated monthly degustation dinner menu featuring fresh produce from urban farms and edible gardens in Klang Valley. The purpose of the dinner is to gather a small group of like-minded people at the dining table not only to savour delicious food cooked with produce grown in the near vicinity, but also engage in meaningful eco-related conversations.

Initiated by CY Phang, founder and head chef of Garden to Table, the six to eight course degustation menu will primarily use fresh produce grown in the edible garden of Garden to Table, together with produce grown, foraged or raised in the vicinity of Petaling Jaya (where the premise is located), Kuala Lumpur, and surrounding areas. We will try to use local products as much as we can, poultry, meat, seafood and grains will be locally sourced, as close as possible to Klang Valley. A small fraction of the ingredients may still need to be imported, such as lamb, dairy products and flours.

The aim of this monthly initiative, is to demonstrate to the public the importance of urban farming and how small-scale urban farms can benefit the communities and eco systems in the cities. We will also attempt to be as sustainable as possible in our cooking and serving, such as to reduce disposable plastic waste and to compost all our organic waste.

The first dinner will take place on September 7 from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm. Guests are welcome to arrive early to visit the edible garden and mingle with other guests over pre-dinner drinks and snacks. The monthly menu will be announced 2 to 3 weeks in advance and the menu and pricing will vary from month to month, depending on the dishes and available seasonal fresh produce from the garden and other urban farms in Klang Valley.
