Notorious pirate captain Yellowbeard (Graham Chapman) is released from a twenty-year prison sentence, immediately setting his sights on recovering a fortune in buried treasure whose location is tattooed on the scalp of his estranged son, Dan (Martin Hewitt). As Yellowbeard reunites with his old, eccentric crew of misfit pirates and reconnects with his sharp-tongued wife Betty (Madeline Kahn), a chaotic race ensues involving rival treasure hunters, bumbling naval officers, and a colourful assortment of pirates, all pursuing the same buried fortune across the high seas. What follows is a wildly anarchic pirate adventure packed with slapstick set pieces, absurd characters, and an all-star ensemble cast delivering gleeful comic mayhem at every turn.

Director Mel Damski assembles an extraordinary comic ensemble, drawing heavily from the ranks of Monty Python alongside a remarkable roster of comedy legends, resulting in a chaotic, anarchic pirate spoof overflowing with talent. Graham Chapman anchors the film with blustering comic villainy, while supporting turns from Peter Boyle, Cheech and Chong, Marty Feldman, and Peter Cook contribute to the film's dense, gag-packed comic energy. The film's episodic structure prioritises individual comic set pieces and absurdist humour over narrative cohesion, embracing pure silliness in the tradition of British comedy troupe filmmaking. Though divisive upon release, Yellowbeard's staggering assembly of comic talent and its committed embrace of gleeful absurdity has earned it a devoted cult following among fans of anarchic ensemble comedy.
