- **Event Description**: Jessica Carlton is a trumpet player and composer based in Boorloo (Perth). She studied jazz performance at Monash University and completed her Master of Performing Arts at WAAPA where is currently undertaking a PhD focusing on neuro-affirming approaches to learning and teaching jazz for neurodivergent musicians. Jessica composes music influenced by her personal life experiences as a mother of two, and as a neurodivergent woman. She has been nominated for a number of awards and fellowships including the Freedman Jazz Fellowship (2021 & 2023), Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year (Bell Awards 2015), and multiple WAM Awards (2022, 2023 & 2025). Jessica is interested in composing music in a project-based manner drawing on different inspirations such as art and literature, and social and political movements. As an autistic woman and mother, she is very passionate about advocating for diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion within the music industry and music education.

For this performance, Jess will be joined by friends and collaborators Kristian Borring (guitar), Alistair Peel (double bass), and Alex Reid (drums) and will be performing two sets of Jess’ original compositions composed at different times over the past few years with a focus on ensemble interaction and improvisation.
