April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and on April 4th, The Growing Hope Project is hosting our Steps for Safe Futures Awareness Walk to stand beside the children who cannot stand alone.
Why April 4th? Because 1 in 4 children experience abuse or neglect in their lifetime.
We walk on the 4th to represent them. Every step is for their voice. Every step is for their safety. Every step is for their future.
The reality is heartbreaking:
• 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys experience sexual abuse before age 18
• Nearly 1 in 4 children experience abuse or neglect
• 90% of victims know their perpetrator — often someone they trust
• Only 1 in 3 children ever tell someone
• 1,820 children died from abuse and neglect in the U.S. in a single year
• 80% of abused children face long-term psychological impacts
These are not just statistics. These are children. These are futures.
This is why The Growing Hope Project exists.
Funds raised from this walk will help us:
🧺 Provide Survivor Support Bins to families starting over with essential household items
🤝 Expand community support and advocacy programs for protective parents and survivors
🎒 Launch future initiatives like Back-to-School Support and Christmas Angel programs
📚 Continue our mission of education, awareness, and empowerment
This is more than a walk.
This is a movement.
This is a promise to children: You are not invisible. You are not alone.
