There is nothing to prepare for this audition! We will start with a group movement exercise to get everyone loose and have some fun! So, wear clothes and shoes that you can move in. We are looking for one strong dancer who can leap and a few others with some dance background.

We will be doing cold readings from the script, so there is no need to prepare anything. Just speak clearly and project.

SHOW SYNOPSIS:

A story for the ages, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a riveting play filled with music, love, and magic. Like the C.S. Lewis novel of the same name, the show follows the four Pevensie siblings as they leave a war-riddled London in 1940, to find safety in a large home in the English countryside. It is here that they discover an old wardrobe; one that leads to the magical, snowy world of Narnia. Through a fantastical woodland adventure, the four children must fight evil, trust each other and, most importantly, believe in themselves.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

The Pevensie Children: Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are siblings who were sent to an old mansion in the country during the height of World War II, under the care of an old professor. It is from this old mansion that their adventure into Narnia begins.

Lucy - (Female) Lucy is the youngest of the Pevensie children. Lucy is curious, kind, brave, cheerful, and is the first of the children to enter Narnia. Lucy is in many scenes and will have a heavier rehearsal schedule. Conflicts must be kept to a minimum.

Edmund - (Male) Edmund is the third oldest Pevensie. Edmund is selfish and has a tendency to be mean and hurtful. Edmund teases Lucy about her childish ways. Edmund falls under the influence of the White Witch, and betrays his siblings. After Edmund’s capture and salvation, he becomes humble, brave and loyal to Aslan. Edmund is in many scenes and will have a heavier rehearsal schedule. Conflicts must be kept to a minimum.

Susan - (Female) Susan is the second oldest Pevensie. Susan is cautious, kind,
thoughtful, logical, motherly, and more serious than her younger sister, Lucy. Susan is in many scenes and will have a heavier rehearsal schedule. Conflicts must be kept to a minimum.

Peter - (Male) Peter is the oldest Pevensie. He is responsible, caring, and wants to
do what is best for his siblings. Peter fights Fenris Ulf, and will be learning some stage
combat choreography. Peter is in many scenes and will have a heavier rehearsal schedule. Conflicts must be kept to a minimum.

Aslan (Male) - Aslan is a talking lion of great stature, and must possess a strong, full speaking voice. He is the rightful King of Narnia, who has been away from Narnia for quite some time and is the embodiment of all that is good, just, right, and perfect, but he is not a tame lion. Aslan appears about halfway through the script, but is a central character from that point forward. After the first few weeks, the actor playing Aslan will have a heavy rehearsal schedule, and conflicts must be kept to a minimum.

White Witch (Female) - Jadis, the white witch, considers herself to be Queen of
Narnia. Under her power, it is always winter, but never Christmas, in Narnia. Her imposing stature and magic wand strike fear and terror in the hearts of those under her rule. The White Witch forbids anyone in Narnia to even speak the name of Aslan, her nemesis. She is deceptive, controlling, and cruel. The actor portraying the White Witch must possess a strong speaking voice & strong movement. As the ā€œvillain,ā€ the white witch appears throughout the show.

Mr and Mrs Beaver (Male/Female) - Mr. and Mrs. Beaver can be thought of as a Narnian version of solid middle-class middle-English citizens in the 1930's. The Beavers are fiercely loyal to Aslan and resist the tyranny of the Witch; they believe in ancient prophecies and accept that Narnia should be ruled by human beings. Mr. Beaver is among the first of the Narnia citizens that the Pevensie children meet, and serves as a guide to them. Mr and Mrs Beaver are supporting characters who appear throughout the show.

Unicorn, Centaur (Male or Female) - Citizens of Narnia who are loyal to Aslan, and friends with the Beavers. Unicorn and Centaur are supporting characters, and appear in several scenes.

Tumnus (Male) - Mr Tumnus, a faun, is the first person Lucy meats in Narnia. Unbeknownst to Lucy, Mr Tumnus had previously agreed to turn any human he meets over to the White Witch. After spending a delightful time entertaining Lucy in his home and getting to know her, his bravery overcomes his fear of the witch, and he lets Lucy go. Tumnus appears heavily in the first few scenes and then again at the end of the show, and is an important supporting character.

Fenris Ulf (Male or Female) - Fenris Ulf is the vicious wolf who acts as the Chief of
the Secret Police under the White Witch. Fenris is bloodthirsty, brutal, and carries out the witch’s every command. The actor who is cast as Fenris will be learning some stage
combat choreography for the fight with Peter. Must possess a strong speaking voice.

Dwarf (Male or Female) - The Dwarf is the direct assistant to the White Witch, and part of her army in the fight with Aslan. Father Christmas - Father Christmas’s arrival in Narnia signifies the weakening of the witch’s power, and ushers in celebration of Aslan’s return. He is jolly yet serious and gives important gifts to the Pevensie siblings. Father Christmas is a central character in one scene, and will likely be dual cast in another role as well.

Elf (Male or Female) - Elf is Father Christmas’s small assistant who appears in one scene, and will likely be dual cast in another role as well.

Wood Nymphs (3-4) (Male or Female)- The Wood Nymphs are elusive Narnians, who emerge when no one else is around. They will likely dance during scene changes, as well as help facilitate setting the changes. The Wood Nymphs are important magical/mystical characters who appear throughout the show. They will need to use their body movement and gestures to convey the idea of transformation within scene changes.

Vicious Wild Animals (3-4) (Male or Female) – These animals will be responsible for striking the sets with strong destructive movement. They will use their body movement to convey the power of the White Witch that rules Narnia.

White Stag (Male or Female) - A very rare creature who, as legend has it, grants a
wish to anyone who captures it. This is a silent character; strong, graceful physical
presence is important for this role. Preferably a strong dancer or gymnast. This actor will make a featured appearance near the beginning, and then again at the end of the show, and will most likely be dual cast as another character as well.

Aslan’s Followers (4-6) (Male or Female) - Citizens (foxes, bears, rabbits, various woodland creatures and mythical creatures) of Narnia who are loyal to Aslan and fight in
his army during the great battle. These ensemble members will also be responsible for changing Narnia from winter to spring.

Witch’s Army (4-6) (Male or Female) - Citizens (ghouls, hags, goblins, etc) of
Narnia who are loyal to the witch and fight in her army.
