- **Event Description**: On 13th November at 7pm we will be welcoming Tesni Bevan to the Harlech Memorial Hall to talk to us about her new book – Poppies grow on broken ground.  

When Welsh soldiers left for war in August 1914, their families were promised they'd be home by Christmas. The community in the Vale of Glamorgan's Abercolwen must struggle through - farmer's wife Megan devotes herself to the hard work of managing the family
sheep farm, her childhood friend Jac arrives in Abercolwen with the invisible wounds of PTSD which dash his hopes of returning to his former life as a shepherd. 

A historically accurate account of the war and how villages in Cymru survived under incredible strain, Tesni's book has been described as "a rich and interesting insight into Welsh life during the
'war to end all wars" by Dafydd Iwan, singer-songwriter and Welsh activist.

Tesni will talk to us about her inspiration for the book in a “fireside chat” with Lucy, our Harlech President. Books will be available to purchase on the night (please bring cash) and we will also enjoy a glass of wine and some delicious cheese and biscuits.

Tickets to this exclusive event can be bought from your Institute for £10 – and if you’d like to invite any friends and family to the event, please get tickets for them too!
