You will not attend the same sessions as your child's other parent at any time.This course contains 6 weekly sessions for parents who are preparing for, going through or have gone through a separation or divorce.The focus of the course is not on finding a cause of things going wrong in families or exploring the nature of childhood difficulties. It is more on helping parents find solutions to problems and create more satisfying ways of relating to their children. The focus is on the interaction between parent and child - when parents respond differently to their children, they help their children behave differently. The goal is to help parents discover ways of communicating (many of which they will be using already) with their children that are positive and which in turn help children to change positively and to reach their full potential.Goals of the Parenting when Separated ProgrammeGenerally, going through a separation is very stressful for all concerned. Learning to co-parent post-separation, in a way that focuses on your children's needs, can be a great challenge. This course hopes to help you:Learn to solve co-parenting problems in a positive way that helps you and your children.Cope with the emotional impact of separation and learn stress management techniques.Help your children cope with the impact of the separation both emotionally and practically.Enhance communication with your child and your child's other parent.Who is the course for?The course is open to separated parents from all backgrounds. Both mothers and fathers, resident, non-residential and co-residential parents are welcome to attend this course. Due to the emotive nature of some of the material, it is recommended that parents of the same child attend separate groups.Note the course is not a forum to resolve individual issues between you and your children's other parent. Other services such as, family mediation or counselling are more appropriate for this.Your group facilitator will discuss with you the venue and time for your sessions in a phone call.Please Note that this booking is to reserve your place for the entire course.
