About the Artist

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. Klimt is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other objets d'art.

The Artwork

The Tree of Life is an important symbol used by many theologies, philosophies and mythologies. It signifies the connection between heaven and earth and the underworld, and the same concept is illustrated by Gustav Klimt's famous mural, The Tree of Life, Stoclet Frieze. For Klimt's admirers, the mural also has another significance, being the only landscape created by the artist during his golden period. Klimt used oil painting techniques with gold paint, to create luxurious art pieces, however you will be painting in acrylic, instead! The concept of the tree of life is illustrated by Gustav Klimt's painting, in a bold and original manner. The swirling branches create mythical symbolism, suggesting the perpetuity of life. The branches twist, twirl, turn, spiral and undulate, creating a tangle of strong branches, long vines and fragile threads, an expression of life's complexity.

With its branches reaching for the sky, the tree of life roots into the earth beneath, creating the connection between heaven and earth! The Tree of life is among the most recognisable from Gustav Klimt's career and perfect and accessible theme to for a perfect decorative pre-Christmas painting night!

(The Tree of Life is house in The Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, Austria and was completed in 1909 and is based on the Art Nouveau (Modern) style in a symbolic painting genre.)

The Tree of Life is one of Klimt's most recognisable paintings and in this wonderful acrylic painting workshop you will be guided to create a likeness or our own take on this fabulous paintings by the Master artist.

Masters Collection - try out fun sessions

Our essential like the Masters 'Artreach Art Night' painting workshops are an excellent way to practice drawing + painting + spend a fun, creative evening, an opportunity for some mindful downtime.

You will learn and practice composition + colour combinations + acrylic paint mixing + sketching + painting + historical context with Gustav Klimt, as we study one of his beautiful and most famous paintings. We will complete our work with gold and sparkling embellishments!

*** This particular artwork will have a particularly accessible process to follow so excellent for absolute beginners + improvers and those that would like to have a go!

What should I bring?

Just yourself - all Materials and equipment is included you will be painting on either an A3 or A2 canvas (please choose your canvas option below)!

In this workshop

You will paint the night away in a guided, step by step process with clear instruction and demonstration on an A3 stretched canvas.

Come with whatever skill level you have there's no experience needed to take part. All materials + equipment is provided (although if you paint and have favourite brushes, please bring these!). Come along and let us guide you, or if you're feeling adventurous free-styling is welcome!

Indulge yourself in a themed + playful acrylic painting workshop, meet a few other like minded people in this art entertainment Friday night out!

In this painting workshop you will be encouraged to relax during a wonderful art process + create layers of acrylic paint on canvas!
