Coming from two Manx parents his mother being Phyllis Long (nee Quirk) the author was born in Bromley, Kent six days after the death of John Shimmin Quirk. He has since lived in Scotland and has been a frequent visitor to the Island. The book begins with the tale of how the Peel fishing boat the 'Mary Frances' was shipwrecked on the Blasket Islands off the south coast of Ireland in 1887. The crew walked barefoot all the way to Dublin to gain passage home! Christopher has undertaken extensive research on the Quirk family history and his fabulous book shows a real insight into what life was like in Peel during the 19th and 20th centuries.                                                                         * Please note the venue- Sailors Shelter, East Quay, Peel *
