Pic is Max from 2018 FB 40 😜
Thank you all for the messages asking about the Frostbite 40. I’ve basically C&P’d the details from the last years but first a couple things:
This event started in 2017. I had no idea you all would love it so much but you just keep showing up and I feel the love. TBH, it always stresses me out even tho it’s pretty easy to plan. I’ve decided to make this the last year. Maybe this will open an opportunity for someone to create a bigger better winter cycling event.
I’m thankful for everyone that’s ever participated. The bicycle is an amazing machine and I’ve always tried to use it to create friendship and build community. It’s been a fun run and I’m excited for one last time!
Here’s the details, mostly a copy and paste from last year’s event page.
Here’s the deal.. Safety first always! The hardest part about putting on an event is making it safe for everyone. In years past we’ve had to make a pavement route because the gravel was iced over. It’s possible that the pavement could be ice as well. So it’s possible we could cancel the Frostbite 40 so stay tuned right up to ride time.
Let’s hope we can do this on gravel but we have a pavement route that everyone seems to enjoy just as much.
Definitely not a race! In fact put that race mentality aside and just enjoy the day with a bunch of friends. It’s self supported, routes are same as years past.
Starts and ends at Sumner Park in Pecatonica. Theres no after party like years past but you’re welcome to bring some parking lot snacks and drinks for after the ride. It’s totally allowed at Sumner Park. There’s some local bars in town that serve food and drinks too.
This “event” Is totally what you make of it. It’s only happening if road conditions allow. Bring super low expectations and you’ll have fun!
I’ll try to keep updates flowing the week up to the ride and I’ll try to update across Strava, Instagram, and Facebook.
Feel free to message me with any questions. I’m not super quick to respond when I’m at work but I will.
I like gravel bikes, so regardless of paved route or gravel bring something with at least 38mm tires. Consider this more of a no drop group ride although I’m sure some hammer heads will show up if that’s your thing. It’s self supported so bring enough food and water for at least 3 hours of riding. Again, not a race, just a fun group ride.
BTW, cost is absolutely FREE!
