- **Event Description**: Interested in learning how to backpack? Join the Inter-Mountain Alpine Club (I-MAC) for its 2026 Backpacking School! The school will be conducted in two all-day sessions on April 11, 9am to 5pm and the 12th 9am -3pm. A combination of indoor and outdoor classes will be offered to teach you what you need to know to start backpacking safely and comfortably on your own. No prior experience in the outdoors is required.  Instructors are I-MAC members with years of experience.

Topics include: Trip planning, navigation tools, the 10 Essentials, Leave No Trace principles, conditioning, packs, tents, sleeping systems, stoves, map and topography basics, cooking and nutrition, water purification, basic first aid and safety, and backpacking with children.
Participants will have an opportunity to sign up for an overnight backpacking trip led by I-MAC trip leaders. The school is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Sign up online at www.imacnw.org
