Gain a better understanding of the Chesapeake Bay’s oyster reef ecosystem and efforts to responsibly manage it while exploring careers in conservation and biology.
Girl Scouts can join National Aquarium staff at Cox Creek, along the south side of the Patapsco River, for this outdoor field research experience. They’ll learn about Maryland's historic native shoreline and see how conservation land management and wildlife surveying are helping to restore it. It’s a “hands-on, feet wet” excursion where Scouts become field biologists, using the same equipment and research methods scientists use to survey the site’s biodiversity and water quality.
Please note that this excursion will involve walking along sandy or muddy, narrow trails and uneven terrain. It is an all-outdoor drop-off event, so all participants must dress accordingly.
Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring a water bottle. The National Aquarium will provide waders for aquatic exploration activities. All participating Scouts will receive a National Aquarium patch.
Tickets purchased through Eventbrite are specifically for the Girl Scout program and do not include general admission to the Aquarium. However, program participants are eligible for discounted Aquarium admission.
