Telling Your Story Memoir Writing Workshop Telling Your Story: Memoir Writing Workshop
Is it time to write your memoir stories? Have your grandchildren been asking about your life? Do you have a story to tell?

About this Event

Are you tired of watching on-line classes about memoir writing? Do you watch them, but never actually do the writing?

Is it time to write your memoir stories? Do you have children or grandchildren that have been asking about your life? Do you have a story to tell that would interest people outside your family? Maybe you are not sure and just want to give it a try.

This is the workshop for you. Led by Marva K. Blackmore, a well-known storyteller, author, and workshop leader, she will guide you through the process of constructing your stories from own favorite and vivid memories. Using the time-honored techniques used by storytellers around the world, Marva will help you unleash your stories and put them on paper.

This workshop takes place on six consecutive Mondays from October 19, 2020, to November 23, 2020, from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. The registration fee includes all workshop materials, including a copy of Marva's book, Telling Your Story: A Guide to Writing Your Memoir Stories. All you bring is a writing implement.

Marva has told stories across Canada and internationally. She tells folk tales and personal stories and has written several storytelling shows which have been featured at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

First, she will help you draw the stories from within yourself and organize them to create your memoir.

This will be six weeks well spent if you do the work and participate, at the end of the six weeks, you will be well on your way to creating your memoir.

Several books of memoirs have already been published by students of this course, including Stories from Under the Wing by Lee Kalnin, Keeping Kahlua by Maeve Lawence, and Wooden Trees to Helicopters, a B.C. Logger's Stories by Carl Rathburn.

Following the advice of Mark Twain, "The secret to getting ahead is getting started," now is the time to get started.

PLEASE NOTE: All COVID-19 protocols are being observed. You will be required to wear a mask when entering and leaving the building. The washrooms are sanitized and hand sanitizer will be availble. The tables in the classroom are six feet long and appropriately separated. Only one person will be seated at each table.
