Meet the Athletes:
Angela Schneider is a Canadian rower best known for winning a silver medal in the coxed fours at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Following her athletic career, she transitioned into academia and is now a professor at the University of Western Ontario. There, she specializes in sport ethics, teaching kinesiology courses that explore the moral and social issues surrounding sport and athletic competition.
Claire Scheffel joined the senior national program in 2021 and debuted at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships. She has since competed at the 2023 and 2024 worlds, helping Canada qualify a full team for Paris 2024. A Pan Am Games bronze medallist, she’s contributed to multiple World Cup podiums across team events. Scheffel first competed internationally at 14, winning figures, duet, and team at the UANA Pan American Championships.
Garrett Riley discovered para sport at a 2017 Paralympian Search event, beginning a journey that led to the 2022 Paralympic Games. Despite injuries, surgery, and the amputation of his left leg following earlier osteosarcoma, he returned to Canada’s lineup in 2021 and continues to compete with remarkable resilience.
