📣Come join the Bourbon County Democrats at our precinct/county convention on April 29th!
Every four years, Democrats across the nation gather in their own voting precincts to organize and rebuild our volunteer efforts to support democracy, fairness, and economic justice. In Bourbon County, ALL registered Democrats are encouraged to attend the reorganization meeting on April 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hopewell Creative Arts Guild Gallery at 718 Main Street. We need people from all over the city and county, so that our representation has balance.
This year, the Kentucky Democratic Party has allowed for some changes that make “REORG” shorter and simpler. But we need YOU! First, Democrats choose their precinct leaders: a man, a woman, and a person male or female between the ages of 18 and 40—the YOUTH member.
The three persons from each precinct become the nominators and voters for members of the Executive Committee, which can be anywhere from 10 to 20 members, with the sexes equally balanced. One member should be in the Under 40 age group. The precinct representatives are also the ONLY people who vote to choose a Democratic candidate for a vacated elective office (NOTE: in 2007, Bourbon County had to replace 3 elected officials with special elections).
A person does not have to be present to be nominated. but be sure the person is willing to accept the nomination. A person may also nominate him/herself for the Executive Committee. Also elected will be the delegates to the state convention, which will be held in Owensboro on June 14 at the Owensboro Convention Center.
It is very important that as many Democrats as possible participate in this reorganizing process. Its goal is to bring new faces and opinions and outlooks into our democratic organization. See you on April 29 at 6:30 at 718 Main Street.
