Curated by Zhou Wumo, with the invaluable support of Victoria and Thierry, directors of the gallery, this exhibition marks a new chapter in the ongoing Wusheng creative cycle, continuing its development in France following its first presentation at the Maison de Privas.While remaining rooted in the conceptual inquiries initiated in Privas, this new presentation recontextualises questions of time, memory, textile fibre, and existence within the singular setting of Paris.Rather than simply relocating the exhibition, this new iteration engages with a different cultural geography, where the works are transformed through their encounter with another urban landscape.Privas and Paris share almost the same letters. A subtle rearrangement of their order is enough to give rise to two distinct worlds. Their phonetic proximity contrasts with the profound differences in their identities: Privas, deeply rooted in its mountainous landscape, evokes a slower rhythm, an inward sense of time, and an intimate relationship with place; Paris, an international capital of contemporary art, is shaped by the constant circulation of perspectives, cultures, and ideas. The journey from Privas to Paris is therefore not the repetition of an existing project, but a genuine rewriting.Just as the rearrangement of letters produces a new meaning, the works acquire new resonances here, developing a presence unique to their new environment. The term Wusheng (??) refers neither to emptiness nor to the absence of life. Rather, it evokes an original state preceding the opposition between birth and disappearance. It designates the invisible realm in which forms have not yet emerged, yet where the forces, relationships, and temporalities that make their appearance possible are already in motion.At the heart of Cao Yuan's practice lies the line as her fundamental visual language. Knotted, woven, repeated, accumulated, and extended through space, it transforms the patient gesture of handcraft into an immersive visual architecture. The line becomes both material and a trace of time, connecting bodily memory, individual experience, and the exhibition space, while mapping an invisible network of subtle correspondences.The exhibition brings together textile installations, photography, and video works in a carefully orchestrated journey where different media engage in dialogue to create a contemplative experience. Networks of threads, geometric structures, and meticulously handcrafted textures establish a delicate balance between order and organicity, physical boundaries and infinite extension, silence and perpetual transformation.Through this spatial composition, visitors are invited to slow their gaze, recover a more inward rhythm, and become attentive to the almost imperceptible movements of life, so often obscured by the acceleration of everyday existence.
