Join us for this 6 week beginners sewing course. Absolute beginners are welcome, as well as those who may want to recap basics, learn or improve their technical sewing foundation.  This is a nice relaxed course, that will very much move at your own pace.

A brief summary of what we will cover:

Week 1 – Getting to know your sewing machine, learn how to thread your
machine, how to change and use the tensions, explore different stitches
and features on your machine.
Week 2 – beginners sewing techniques, learning about different seams, hems, gathering and how to sew different fabrics.
Week 3 – Sewing patterns, We will break down how to use the information on sewing pattern envelopes, their instructions, how to measure yourself and what different markings on patterns mean. (please bring a pattern this week if you have one, if not, some will be provided to study)
Week 4 – Progressing with technical sewing, learning the next step in sewing techniques like button holes, binding, piping and zips.
Week 5 – Altering a garment, You are invited to bring a garment from home you wish to make some basic alteration to. Like shortening trousers or a skirt, taking in a shirt, or patching jeans. We will look at everyone’s items and explore the best way to alter them, and then have a go at the alteration.
Week 6 – Starting a project! In this final week you are invited to bring fabric and a pattern to begin your first project. We will start your projects together, setting you up to work on your project at home with the knowledge you have learnt over the previous 6 weeks.

Who is this workshop for?
Anyone, from an absolute beginner to someone wanting to refresh their skills.

Who is your tutor?
The lovely Morgan from the LilyBoo team, who has extensive experience in dressmaking, alterations and costume design and making.

What do you need to bring?
Sewing machine,
Basic sewing kit- pins scissors, tape measure, fabric scissors, thread
A pattern to study on week 3 if you have one, if not some will be provided to look at.
A garment to alter week 5
Fabric and a pattern to start work on week 6, if you’d rather start with something simpler like a tote bag or cushion cover, we can provide the measurements to do this.
You may wish to bring a note book, but this is not essential.

Other things you need to know
Please note that the workshop is held upstairs. Refreshments are included in the fee, please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. The workshops at LilyBoo have brought together people for a chat, to learn something new and there is always lots of laughter.
