Beginning October 18, we’ll spend the next 11 weeks studying and reflecting together on The Diamond Sūtra, using the translation by Red Pine.

First printed in 868 CE, the Diamond Sūtra holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest dated printed book. Discovered hidden within the Dunhuang (Mogao) Caves in China, its delicately woodblock-printed scroll predates Gutenberg by nearly six centuries. Beyond its historical significance, this Mahāyāna text offers a profound inquiry into the fleeting and insubstantial nature of all phenomena.

The Sanskrit title, Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra, may be translated as “The Perfection of Wisdom That Cuts Like a Thunderbolt.”
