The class covers nursing considerations for the care of these patients, technologies for management of Diabetes, and patient education.OBJECTIVESUpon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:Explain the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetesTeach how to use home blood glucose meterSupport carbohydrate counting for children with diabetesTeach the administration of insulin injectionsTeach the treatment of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemiaTeach the basics of diabetes self managementExplain what are insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitor, and when to expect to start using these devicesCONTINUING EDUCATIONThis continuing education (CE) course is offered through Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford by the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPEI). Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Provider Number 9713.Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).Number of BRN Contact Hours: 3.75 hoursNumber of ANCC Contact Hours: 3.75 hoursOther Medical Professionals:Contact your professional board to determine if they accept continuing education (CE) credits approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).Earning CE CreditsTo be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits, participants are required to attend the entire course or event and complete the course evaluation. Partial credit cannot be granted for late arrivals or early departures.Certificate Issuance and Record KeepingCE certificates will be distributed within 30 days of course completion. Participants are responsible for maintaining their personal records of accrued CE documentation.
