Children's Store to be Held December 5 and 6

 First Christian Church of Palmyra - 202 East Olive Street - invites area children (up to 5th grade) to shop for gifts for family members at its Children’s Christmas Store. 

This year’s pop-up store will be held on two days. Friday, December 5, reserved for children and adults with special needs, will be held from 6-7:30. Saturday, December 6, shopping will take place from 9am to 2pm. 

The Children’s Store will be set up in the church basement/fellowship hall. Shopping will be on a first come, first serve basis. Parents/guardians will need to wait in the sanctuary while the children shop. Children are not allowed to be dropped off without an adult/guardian.

Since only children will be allowed to be in the Christmas Shop, for approximately 15 minutes, a Christmas Store Helper will assist the children shop/ as they go through the store. All items at the store will be priced between 25¢ to $1.

When asked about where the idea for the event came from, Event Organizer Yvonne Goellner said, “I remember when my children were in elementary school, they loved to go to a similar event that was always held in the basement of Palmyra State Bank. It gave them the opportunity to shop for their family members.”  

Parent/guardians need to send a list of who all their child(ren) (with ages, please) will be purchasing gifts for and list ideas as to what the person likes (favorite colors, teams, etc). In addition - children should bring a zip-close bag marked with their name with the money they will be spending on gifts. The organizers ask no big bills (over $10).

100% of the money raised at the Children’s Christmas Shop will be given back to the community. The Children’s Christmas Store will feature a variety of craft items made especially for this event. Many of the trinkets, ornaments, and goodies are personalized for mom, dad, grandparents, etc. “We’ve been holding craft nights for a few months. Our ‘elves’ have enjoyed making thoughtful and fun gifts for children to shop through,” stated Yvonne.
