- **Event Description**: The Ngaio Marsh Awards, in association with Palmerston North City Library, invites booklovers to a thrilling free event featuring four talented Kiwi storytellers. 

Local librarian and mystery writer Bing Turkby welcomes fellow Manawatū writers Patricia Dunmore and GB Ralph, along with visiting author Kim Hunt, a past Ngaios Best First Novel finalist, for a criminally good korero about the art and craft of storytelling and creating memorable characters, the impact and evocation of setting and real-life issues, and what drew each of them to mystery and thriller writing.

Patricia is a Feilding author who has spent a lifetime in publishing, and has personally written more than 15 books across many genres, fiction and non-fiction, for children and adults. Patricia has worked for a variety of publishers, including Harlequin Mills &amp; Boon, was a co-founder of Dunmore Press and Upstart Press, and is currently the owner of Heritage Press. She has taught writing in both schools and the community. Her latest novel, published in 2025, is the thriller HUMAN ERROR. 

Kim is a Kapiti Coast writer whose short stories have been published in a variety of anthologies and literary journals. She has a Masters in Creative Writing and previously worked as a band roadie, DJ, tiler, horticulturalist and women’s refuge worker. Her debut THE BEAUTIFUL DEAD introduced NSW park ranger Cal Nyx and became a Ngaios Best First Novel finalist. The sequel was longlisted for Best Novel. Kim's latest novel is THE CORRECTOR.

GB Ralph is an engineering consultant in Palmerston North and author of cosy mysteries and gay romcoms. The second novel in his Milverton Mysteries series, POISON AT PENSHAW HALL, was a #1 Audible category bestseller, and was nominated for Best Overall Mystery/Thriller in the 2023 Queer Indie Awards. His latest novel is FRIGHT ON STAGE RIGHT, with a fifth mystery starring Addison Harper coming out later in 2026.

Bing is a Manawatū writer, librarian, and musician. He is the author of the 'Guitar Store Mysteries' series of cosy crime novels, set in a fictionalized version of Palmerston North. Bing writes stories with a 95% chance of guitars and a 45% chance of cats. The latest in his mystery series is AGAINST THE GRAIN.
