Can you tell if your organisation is on the right track? Do you have evidence for that, or is it more of a feeling? Can you convince funders that you’re progressing? Can you prove how you've helped given the government's new focus on social impact?
Good monitoring and evaluation can help you achieve all these things. This two-part training series will help you make monitoring and evaluation (M&E) more useful, manageable, and meaningful.
Session 1: How to Know If What You’re Doing Is Working
We’ll break down how to choose the right indicators — the things you measure — to show if your work is achieving the outcomes you care about.
You’ll learn:
- How to spot weak links between what you’re measuring and what you’re trying to change
- How to choose indicators that are practical and worth the effort to track.
- The difference between early warning signs (leading indicators) and end results (lagging indicators)
Session 2: Bring Your Plan, Test Your Ideas
This is your chance to apply what you’ve learned. Bring 1–3 outcomes and indicators from your own strategic or reporting plan, especially ones you’re unsure about.
- Get guidance to review your indicators
- Take part in a peer-review process to test and strengthen your thinking
- Share your findings and receive expert commentary from our facilitator, Gerard
Together, we’ll explore how to make your M&E more practical and powerful, so it works for your organisation, your funders, and your community. This training is run by Dr Gerard Prinsen, who has extensive experience working with international NGOs.
The two workshops are designed to be taken together. It is highly recommended that attendees go to both.
