Rodeo Season is approaching quickly!
We have a couple of our competitive horses and ponies that haven’t matched with riders for the 2026 season yet.
Please read this entire description.
March 7 we will be having team try outs.
12 noon to 5pm.
RSVP required
The cost for these lease intro tryouts will be reduced from $65 per person to $50 per person for this special one day only event.
What do you need to know about this Team lease program before trying out?
This is a sport, with the same commitments as any sport, including sportsmanship, partnership with your equine team mate, attending practices, as well our team has a code of conduct. We expect our team to show respect to one another and those we compete against too. We cheer and encourage those around us and we are available as needed to help one another, the team and the club.
The sooner you get started learning and practicing, the more fun and rewarding the season will be.
Requirements to join the team are that riders must able to independently catch, groom, tack and ride. With exception to some of our smaller youth riders whose parents/siblings/mentors are able help them with those things.
We encourage starting out as early as possible.
We have no age limits. (parents are required to supervise small children)
Our team of independent riders currently ranges from 4 years old to almost 70 years young. 😊
Competition horses are leased to one rider (though many also tote family members for lead-line and peewee riders, we like to see our leased horses treated as family affording parents and children supervised riding opportunities, as well we’ve had siblings share mounts for weekly races too) team leases are complete with appropriate assigned tack to fit both the horse and the main rider.
Team leases options and costs:
Seasonal leases, for those only wanting the commitment through the competition months (ending October 1) will be $1000/mo.
Annual commitments, as many of our members choose to continue a relationship with one mount year round brings the cost lower to $750/mo for that annual commitment.
These types of leases include unlimited days of riding, and all amenities the farm offers onsite. We have a pretty active social network at the Farm, many ride and/or spend quality time every day.
We do have a Barn Bucks program where our lessors can clean stalls, work events, and do chores to earn discounts of up to 50% off of leases or group lessons each month.
Lessons are available to our lessors at a discount rate as well.
We practice during the school year every Sunday afternoon from 2:30 pm to 4 pm, approximately once a month we haul to an local indoor arena for a little longer and more detailed clinic setting, and sometimes to avoid in-climate weather.
Once school lets out for the summer, our practices change to Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7 (or so). On these evenings our team members pack their tack trunks for ease and organization of loading for Wednesday races. Practices are $25/week for lessors and boarders, $50 for those hauling in.
Indoor practice is $50-65 depending on which arena hosts us.
We haul on Wednesday evenings to Midnight Sun Barrel Racers weekly races during the season (May through September, see schedule in comments). They’re almost every Wednesday May through September. With the finals and the Sunset Finale both held the end of September both on Saturdays.
Membership for MSBR is $75 a year,
Hauling offsite also adds $10 a week for transport to Palmer races or $20 to Anchorage races.
Our riders have entry fees to MSBR (open barrels $30, open poles $30, youth barrels $20) each week, entry fees are cash only, paid at the entry table to MSBR. There is also a sponsorship obligation with MSBR if you or your child wants to accumulate points for year end awards.
These races are run in 4D and 5D formats “where even beginners can be winners”.
Many of our team members also run Friday night jackpots before rodeos, and some in the open rodeo adding entry fee budgeting. Some of the rodeos on the Peninsula and Fairbanks can be included, these “away” shows are earned and only offered when space is available.
Many people choose to lease before buying, preparing for that ownership commitment.
While others aren’t in a position to own their own this is a perfect opportunity.
Leasing gives that one in one bond you can’t normally achieve unless you own your own horse… The Farms team lease program offers what you can’t find elsewhere.
We do have several team members who do own their own mounts, we practice together, travel together and encourage one another. Some private owners board full time on the farm, some seasonally and some haul in for practices and events.
If you think our Rodeo Team program will work for you, let’s get you on the schedule March 7 and see if one of our available equine athletes matches to your dreams.
