We now offer 2 formats of orienteering:
1) MASS START SCORE-O starting at 10AM. Time limit 2 hours.
Register and pay from 9-9:45. Stage by starting line to “clear/check” your e-punch stick and receive your map.
Orienteers seek to collect the maximum points within the time limit and can collect points in any order
2) Standard “colored” courses of various difficulty and lengths and where controls are visited in order. You choose your own start time anytime in the starting window of 9 am through 12:30.
SCHEDULE:
9am: Registration opens at the venue, where you select which course(s) you wish to do and pay onsite. (Schools with JROTC athletes must preregister at our website: www.Floridaorienteering.org)
9:45 SCORE-O participants stage at starting line/receive maps
10:00 SCORE-O Mass Start! Good luck!
9:30am - 1:00pm: Standard course participants/teams start at the time of their choosing.
Time limit of 3 hours, but all must be back before 3:00 pm when the courses close.
12:00 SCORE-O finishes with penalties applied from 12:01-12:30, and awards at 12:30
COURSES OFFERED - Course distances to be announced.
YELLOW - for beginners. Course is mostly on trails with control points a short distance into the woods. There may be opportunities for those who feel able to take short cuts through the woods.
ORANGE - intermediate difficulty. Mix of on- trail and off-trail, generally relying on the more obvious mapped features.
GREEN - advanced course off trail and reliant on the subtler features of the terrain.
BLUE - the longest advanced course.
COSTS:
Venue fee: reduced rate of $2/person payable at our registration table along with:
Course fee: $7 for FLO members; $10 for non-members
E-stick timer rental is $3/team for those who don’t own one.
Compass: bring your own or rent one for $2/ each.
