Once a vast seasonal marsh that historically connected the Lake Okeechobee watershed to the St. Lucie River, Allapattah Flats is home to a rich mosaic of wet prairies, marshes, and pine flatwoods. During this walk, we’ll explore how these wetlands store and filter water, support wildlife, and play a vital role in Florida’s natural landscape. This program will be led by Professional Wetland Scientist and Martin County Senior Planner Maddie Gierczak.
