EVENT DETAILS

Where You’ll Be:
Join us for a day exploring the natural areas along the San Juan Riverwalk and Reservoir Hill while collecting valuable ecological information! The event will take place at Pagosa Springs' downtown parks and riverwalks, with registration check-in at the Ross Argon Community Center on Hot Springs Blvd. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and appreciate the vibrant life that thrives in this ecosystem.

What You’ll Do:
A BioBlitz is a fun and relaxed community science event where experts, community members, and volunteers help document the biodiversity of an area. Throughout the day, you’ll explore by taking photos of bugs, birds, plants, and other wildlife to record in the iNaturalist app. Additionally, we’ll collect samples of aquatic species along the banks of the San Juan River and nearby ponds. No prior experience is necessary, just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm for nature. Prizes will be awarded for the most observations made!
Please bring a backpack, water, lunch, and muck boots if you have them. Observations will be captured with cell phones using the iNaturalist app. If you do not have a cell phone, we can pair you up with another volunteer who does.
Please download and explore the app prior to the project at https://www.inaturalist.org/.

Why It Matters:
This project allows participants to connect directly with the ecosystem while contributing valuable data for scientific research. The information collected helps scientists track changes in biodiversity, monitor trends in local habitats, and identify newly arrived or rare species. Your contributions will provide critical insights into the health and diversity of this natural area.
