Come and spend a winter’s afternoon sipping tea and nibbling biscuits while you listen to some fresh, incendiary New Zealand poetry. 

Featuring two beloved locals, Maria McMillan and Helen Heath and two out of town interlopers, Airini Beautrais and Helen Lehndorf. This is a FREE event. Some books will be available for sale. 


Who are these people? 

Airini Beautrais lives in Whanganui. Her most recent publication is the poetry collection Salt Quilt (THWUP 2026). Her other works include a short story collection, an essay collection, and more poetry.

Helen Lehndorf is a Taranaki writer living in the Manawatū. She is the author of The Comforter, Write to the Centre, A Forager’s Life and, new collection, The Bruise Palette. 

Maria McMillan's poetry is widely anthologised. She has had books out with Seraph Press and Te Herenga Waka University Press. Her new collection '55 ways to incite a revolution' is out with Australia's Spinifex Press in early 2027. Maria reckons it is her most absurd and most serious book yet. 

Helen Heath’s debut collection, Graft, won the Best First Book for Poetry award in 2013 and was the first book of fiction or poetry to be shortlisted for the Royal Society of NZ Science Book Prize. Her second collection Are Friends Electric? won the 2019 Ockham Book Awards.
