Robert Nielsen is a Carmel Valley poet, writer, and photographer. He has lived, worked, and traveled throughout the U.S. and many other countries. His art reflects his worldwide experience and holds moments of connection with beauty, people, place, story, self, and the passing of time, as well as with comfort, courage, resilience, and hope. Formerly an international lawyer, and an artist always, Nielsen stays balanced by cultivating his own garden, namely his heart, voice, and vision. His poetry and writing have appeared in various anthologies, journals, and other publications; his award-winning photographs have been exhibited and included in public and private galleries and collections in the United States and abroad. His work often combines photographs with words, each complementing the other. Nielsen served as lead host of the Monterey Bay Poetry Consortium monthly reading series for ten years. Alice K. Tao was born in 1935 in Guangdong, China, the oldest of six children. Surviving the turmoil and instability of China through the 1940s, she emigrated to United States, married, and raised a family with her husband in Massachusetts and California. Tao pursued graduate studies, eventually teaching Chinese Language at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. With the freedom of retirement, she has continued to study and learn, following her deep interests in music, writing, and travel. My River Gently Flows, Tao’s first book of poetry, was published in 2023.

The Monterey Bay Poetry Consortium seeks to showcase the finest talents of the diverse Central Coast literary community, from Big Sur to Santa Cruz to the Salinas Valley and beyond. Free readings are held on the second Saturday of each month at the Pacific Grove Public Library. All are welcome.
