About the Instructor: Dr. Scott Barboza
Scott first discovered bonsai in 1990 through a close friend while living in California. Bonsai brought together his love for hiking, the outdoors, and gardening, sparking a lasting interest. He started with beginner classes in Sacramento, continued learning in Seattle, and began more advanced study after moving to Houston. Over the years, he has given many lectures, taught classes and workshops, and helped organize conventions and exhibitions. He now serves as Secretary and Convention Chair for the American Bonsai Society. Scott’s trees have received many awards at local, state, and regional competitions. He has also shown his work at the Bay Island Bonsai Exhibition in San Francisco and the US National Bonsai Exhibition in Rochester. He is now building his home and garden in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.
