Join artist E L West for an English Paper Piecing quilting workshop at the Museum of Oxford!
This will be an opportunity to try your hand at traditional and non-traditional English Paper Piecing, learning how to draft and hand sew a quilt topper. If you have any scrap fabric, please bring it along to use in your designs! Recycled and reclaimed fabric from the artist’s stash will also be provided.
During the workshop, you will be able to make a piece to take home, and also contribute to the community quilt E West is working on as part of our exhibition “Our Oxford: 50 Years, 50 Stories”. All are welcome to take part in this creative project!
This is a free event, but please secure your place by booking a ticket. There are 20 places available.
About our 50th anniversary project and the community quilt
To celebrate the Museum of Oxford’s 50th anniversary in 2025, we are collaborating with groups and individuals across the city to bring together 50 new community stories. We are celebrating and holding space for diverse memories and experiences to create a vibrant community-woven archive that represents Oxford in 2025.
As part of this community project and temporary exhibition, artist E West has been commissioned by the Museum to create a quilt that represents each of the 50 stories. The unfinished evolving quilt is currently on display at the Museum of Oxford between 26 April 2025 – 3 January 2026 as part of the “Our Oxford: 50 Years, 50 Stories” temporary exhibition. The quilt that E West creates will then be a part of the Museum’s collection and permanently on display from 2026 onwards.
