- **Event Description**: Dear Nature Volunteers,

Aston's Eyot is a large 30 acre site, literally speaking an island (hence 'Eyot') bordered by the Thames, Cherwell New Cut and Shire Lake Ditch, just downstream from Christ Church Meadow. The land is owned by Christ Church College and is managed by an enthusiastic Friends group with some help from the Oxford City Council. The friends have in hand a long term plan to improve the flow and water quality of the Shire Lake Ditch. The chances of significant improvement require that the ditch be dredged and that much of the overhanging vegetation be cut back. 

The plan for today is to concentrate on dredging. We made a start in May of last year. See the photos here: https://www.ocv.org.uk/gallery.php?site=205. It’s likely to be hard work and a mucky job - so be prepared!

No previous experience is necessary.

We're short of task leaders at the moment and we can't carry on without them. 

Some of our tasks are much easier to lead than others, so if you're a regular volunteer please consider stepping up to do a bit of leading. Any of the task leaders will be happy to let you shadow them until you're confident you know the ropes.  If you are interested, please get in touch - we need more leaders.
