Describing botanical substances such as cannabis and ayahuasca as entheogenic emphasises the experiences of inner divinity they can induce. In this talk I will compare and contrast two recent publications about the contemporary use of entheogens in England: one on entheogenic healing in Rastafari and the other on rituals in several non-traditonal ayahuasca churches. These papers raise interesting metaphysical questions about the nature of reality and where we draw the line between natural and supernatural.
