An intimate concert and public conversation exploring the living tradition of Sámi yoik, featuring among others Norwegian composer and musician Frode Fjellheim, internationally known for bringing yoik to wider audiences, including through Vuelie, the opening music of Disney's Frozen. 

Intiimi konsertti ja yleisökeskustelu, joka tarkastelee saamelaisen joikuperinteen elävää jatkumoa. Tapahtumassa esiintyy muun muassa norjalainen säveltäjä ja muusikko Frode Fjellheim, joka tunnetaan kansainvälisesti joikun tuomisesta laajemman yleisön tietoisuuteen, muun muassa säveltämänsä Vuelie-teoksen kautta, joka kuullaan Disneyn Frozen-elokuvan alkumusiikkina.

Fjellheim's work creates a powerful meeting point between Sámi vocal tradition, contemporary soundscapes, and cultural memory. The concert offers an immersive listening experience where ancestral vocal forms meet present-day composition, inviting reflection on identity, continuity, and transformation through sound.

The performance is followed by an open public conversation with Fjellheim and d@rts experts on how indigenous artistic traditions are passed down across generations — and the questions of ownership, authority, and responsibility that come with sharing them with new audiences.

These events are organised by dialoguing@rts (d@rts), a European research project that explores how the arts can bring people together across cultures, backgrounds and borders. At the heart of d@rts is a simple but powerful belief: that music, dance and drama are not just art forms,  they are ways of connecting, understanding one another, and building more inclusive communities. Because the performing arts speak to people regardless of language or background, they offer a unique space where everyone can participate and belong.

The events take place in Oulu as part of the Cultural Programme of Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026.
