This trip is not to be missed! If you have been to this wonderful state park you know how beautiful it is. With its majestic St. Peters sandstone bluffs towering over the Illinois river to the canyons carved out deep along the shore line this state park has been consistently rated #1 in Illinois. Come see Bald eagles, great american white pelicans, and our beautiful lotus flowers in full bloom.

For this trip we will be kayaking for approx. 2 hours. The views from the water are amazing! Wear water shoes(no flip flops). This is an out and back trip which means we will be returning to our starting point. No shuttle is needed.

I-39 Southbound – South to I-80 east (exit #59.) Go 2 miles to exit #81 (Rt. 178, Utica). Go south (right) 4 miles on Rt. 178 to Rt.71. Turn left on Rt.71 and travel 5 miles to the east end of Starved Rock State Park. Follow sign to Lone Point Shelter.

I-39 Northbound – North to exit #48 (Tonica exit). Go east (right) for approximately 5 miles to the T intersection, which is Rt. 178. Go north (left) for approximately 5 miles to the intersection of Rt. 178 & Rt. 71. Turn right on Rt. 71 and travel 5 miles to the east end of Starved Rock State Park. Follow sign to Lone Point Shelter.

I – 80 Eastbound & Westbound – Get off at exit #81 (Rt.178, Utica). Go south 4 miles on Rt.178 to Rt. 71. Turn left on Rt. 71 and travel 5 miles to the east end of Starved Rock State Park. Follow sign to Lone Point Shelter.

From Chicago area – Take I-294 or I-355 south to I-55. Take I-55 to I-80. Go west on I-80, 45 miles to exit #81 (Rt.178, Utica). Go south (left) 4 miles on Rt. 178 to Rt. 71. Turn left on Rt.71 and travel 5 miles to east end of park. Follow sign to Lone Point Shelter.
