Explore, imagine, and create a shared vision through art and civic imagination.About this EventDate: Tuesday, August 18, 2026Time: 6:00 – 8:30 PMLocation: Vincent Massey Park, exact meeting location/pin will be shared with registered participantsAbout This Workshop What could Ottawa become by 2050? Join us for an evening of civic imagination, creative making, and collective visioning as we explore the city we want to build together.In this free, arts-based workshop, youth ages 18-35 will be invited to learn about how our city works, reflect on what they value about Ottawa today, and imagine what they hope our communities could look like in the future. Together, we’ll explore questions like:What makes a city feel like home? What do we love about Ottawa that we want to protect and nurture?What needs to change for everyone to thrive?Through conversation, mapping activities, and collaborative art-making, we will create a shared vision of Ottawa 2050. We’ll experiment with multimedia collage using natural, recycled, and found materials – including creating textures, patterns, and unexpected artworks from everyday objects – to bring our collective hopes and ideas for the future city to life.No previous art or making experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to imagine together.What to ExpectThe workshop will include:A conversation about the role of municipal government and how cities are shapedReflection on what we value about Ottawa today and what we hope to transformCollaborative visioning activities exploring different aspects of city life (e.g., transportation, community safety, nature, housing, public spaces, and more)Playful, hands-on experimentation with collage, stamping, embossing, and found materialsCreating a collective artwork imagining the Ottawa we want to live in by 2050Space to share stories, ideas, and hopes for our future cityMaterials and light refreshments will be provided.About the Facilitator Rae Landriau (they/them) is a passionate environmental scientist working at the intersection of Indigenous knowledge, scientific inquiry, and environmental justice. Driven by the desire to make science and climate education accessible, Rae founded Create Change Collective, a community-based organization that mobilizes art as a tool for environmental action and climate literacy across Canada. Rae holds a MSc. in Geography from Carleton University and a BSc. in Environmental Science from the University of Ottawa.About Picnics for Living Futures Picnics for Living Futures is a Civic Imagination Lab project inviting youth ages 18-35 across Ottawa to imagine the city they want to live in by 2050. Through free outdoor arts-based workshops, participants explore questions of care, belonging, community, and collective futures through creativity and collaboration.The ideas and artworks created through this series will contribute to a public showcase and broader conversations about the future of Ottawa.We can’t wait to imagine and create with you! ?
