Explore, learn and create with us!About this EventEvent Description: What might you see when you take a moment to slow down and really notice your surroundings? You might notice the contours of a leaf or the buzz of a native pollinator. Maybe you would be fascinated by the shadows cast by the summer heat. During this session, participants will be led through two printmaking techniques using the power of the sun: cyanotype and anthotype using turmeric. We will sketch and collect inspiration from the walk to later create compositions for sun printing.No artistic experience needed.Meeting Location:  Carleton Station Line 2Accessibility note for the walk: some inclines and uneven, rocky terrain.FacilitatorsBeck Deresse (they/them) is a Black, queer illustrator and designer based in Ottawa, ON. As an artist, Beck is interested in how art can be used as a tool for liberation and imagining a better, more tolerable world. When not creating, you can find Beck bird watching or going on a walk in the woods.Esther Draves (she/her) is a nature lover interested in the intersection of science communication and art. Having spent the past few years studying and Biology and Environmental studies, she is excited to share her knowledge of natural history and ecology. She hopes to encourage people to see the beauty in the nature around them and to inspire a real connection with the earth, through learning about the science intertwined with nature.
