Artemysia Fragiskatos

BIOS: 

Emma Blue is a perpetual student, a fairy-tale addict, and the human version of the Sorting Hat. She's performed at Nuit Blanche, Poets and Politics, and Wordsfest, London's premier literary festival. She was also a member of the London Poetry Slam's 2014 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word team, and continues to participate in a variety of community events and workshops. Emma lives with her mother and cranky cat in London, Ontario.


King Kimbit is an internationally recognized singer and spoken word artist from Ottawa, Ontario. She started making noise at the local level in 2012 after being crowned champion of the Urban Legends poetry slam series. Since then, she has worked with her art to educate folk from Canada to the United States (and anywhere else YouTube allows). Throughout her life, King has sung at many cultural events in the community, and more recently, in the United States. 

King is now working towards dropping a rap album, but not before obtaining her Bachelor of Mathematics (as loosely suggested by Mos Def) with a minor in Spanish. Expected date of graduation: June 2016.


Jenny Meya a.k.a Rational Rebel believes that the spoken word scene allows her to build confidence, while giving her the strength to stay content. She believes that a poetry show is a conversation between an artist and an audience that is often not recognized until we’ve said our goodbyes. Described as a dreamer, she is a believer in abstract storytelling.

During the course of her spoken word career, she has had the opportunity to perform at VERSeFest, a local community fundraiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation, House of Paint’s OG 500 Slam, and of course, Urban Legends.


Artemysia has been performing in Ottawa's Spoken Word Community for over two years. In that time she earned a spot on Capital Slam's 2014 team that was one of two teams representing Ottawa at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Victoria, BC in October of 2014. The team earned fifth place, which is the furthest Cap Slam has gone since winning consecutively in 2009 and 2010. Her team had the highest number of females representing Cap Slam in the decade it has been operating. 

She enjoys collaborating with artists as much as she enjoys getting paid and making sure the artists get paid too. Currently she is the host, photographer and blogger of Words To Live By, a monthly show operating outside of the Capital Poetry Collective that you can find at Pressed Café (750 Gladstone) the last Tuesday of every month. Her work can be found on youtube, in print, and online.
