"description": "Maren Elliott is an Edmonton-based visual artist and musician. Her creative practice encompasses her training and interest in multiple disciplines, including visual and installation art, dance, sound art, classical music, cultural studies, sociology and psychology. Maren’s process and finished pieces reflect the passion for creative arts, human connection, and social justice that she has carried with her since early childhood.Maren’s formal arts training began with classical music: she began playing viola at the age of four, and continued her learning on this instrument through her university studies, under the tutelage of Aaron Au. Her training in the visual arts began through the completion of an International Baccalaureate Certificate in Higher Level Fine Arts. After high school, Maren went on to earn a B.A. in Psychology and Music from the University of Alberta, during which time she expanded the scope of her artistic practice through course-work and self-study. Maren has found a bridge between her passions for arts, and the human and social sciences through her work with local art therapy groups.Maren’s current body of work is informed by her diverse background and training: her visual work often includes three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional plane, and much of her work features mixed media, and the inclusion of interactive elements requiring human participation. In addition to her current studio arts work, Maren is a Suzuki violin and viola teacher, and has also worked in mental health."
