- **Event Description**: On Palm Sunday, March 28, 1920, a devastating F4 tornado traveled through northeast Indiana, killing 13 people and causing millions of dollars of property damage.  The village of Townley, a few miles north of Monroeville in Allen County (about 15 miles southeast of Fort Wayne) was mostly leveled.

Many of those affected by the Palm Sunday tornado were German Lutherans living in northern Wells and Adams counties and southern Allen County.  German surnames of those impacted by the storm include Graft, Nuerge, Bauermeister, Werling, Gallmeier, Hoffman, Melcher, Buuck, Erxleben, Schroeder, Bultemeier, Schuckman, Grotrian, Fry, Marquart, and Fluttrow.  

To mark the 105th anniversary of the 1920 Palm Sunday tornado, the Friends of Wyneken will retell the story of the twister and its aftermath, focusing especially on the impact the tornado had on the German Lutherans who lived in its path.  The presentation will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 30 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6514 E 750 N, Ossian, Indiana.  All are welcome to attend.
