- **Event Name**: A New Philosophy of Aid? How the War in Ukraine Is Rewriting the Rules of International Donorship
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 03 Sep, 2026 at 12:30 pm – Thu, 03 Sep, 2026 at 02:30 pm
- **Event Description**: For decades, international donors followed a familiar script in times of crisis: restore macroeconomic stability, restructure debt, advise on reform, and reintegrate the affected economy into global markets.

Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine changed this approach. Confronting a geopolitical conflict with humanitarian, social, and reconstruction dimensions under extreme uncertainty, institutions like the IMF and the World Bank, alongside bilateral and multilateral donors, had to improvise.

This seminar offers a discussion moving from the general picture of donor transformation to concrete implications. Drawing on more than a decade of research and field projects on Ukraine, Dr Veronika Vakulenko examines what the shift means for the organisation and coordination of reconstruction assistance, for governance and accountability in a country at war, and for how recipient states and their partners build resilience under sustained uncertainty.
