This event was designed in response to ongoing conversations about the lack of programming for Black girls in STEAM and the importance of strengthening both self-esteem and representation in STEAM fields.This experience brings together hands-on coding through Ontario Tech Engineering’s youth program and wellness-centered activities led by RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone. Participants will not only build practical skills in coding and digital creation, but also engage in meaningful conversations about self-esteem, imposter syndrome, and seeing themselves in STEAM careers.The event is designed to create space for Black girls to learn, try, and grow—while building confidence in both who they are and what they can create.This workshop will feature:Group wellness activities and grounding practicesSmall group sharing circles in a brave spaceA short keynote from a Black woman in STEAMHands-on coding using ScratchInteractive career-building digital projectsAffirmation and reflection activities to close the dayLunch, snacks, and water will be provided throughout the eventThrough guided learning and community connection, participants will explore coding fundamentals such as loops, variables, and functions while building an interactive career-based project that highlights representation in STEM.By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with new technical skills, strengthened confidence, and a deeper sense of what is possible for them in STEAM fields.All skill levels welcome!**Parental/Guardian Consent**By registering for this event, you acknowledge that you are the parent or legal guardian of the participant and consent to their participation in Black Girls E.S.T.E.E.M workshop delivered by RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone and Ontario Tech Engineering.You understand that photos, videos, and other media may be captured during the event and may include your child’s participation.
